Children from low-income households with savings for college of just $1-499 are three times more likely to go to college and four times more likely to graduate. |
Semillitas, which means small seeds in Spanish, invests in Santa Cruz County kids’ educational future by creating an automatic college savings account and making an initial seed deposit at time of birth of up to $50 to all Santa Cruz County newborns.
Studies show that children with these types of accounts are 3 times more likely to go to college and 4 times more likely to graduate, regardless of how much is in the account! The program is committed to work to make sure kids have $500 by the time they turn 5 years-old! To date, the program has opened over 2,000 accounts, and thanks to the generosity of our partners, all administrative and program costs are secured through 2022, ensuring that donations to the program go directly to children’s savings. Together we can help your children reach their educational dreams |
